As one of the traditional programmes of SPEIT, the much anticipated Team Building was held on October 16th!
The event was held at the Shanghai Oriental Land Training Facility, whose brand-new environment provided SPEIT students with an unprecedented fresh experience. The diverse experiential activities held outdoors in the fresh air not only encouraged teacher-student interactions, but struck a positive and enterprising note as 200-odd teachers and students worked out in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
The event was attended by the French Dean of SPEIT Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET, Deputy Secretary of Party General Branch of SPEIT Ms. LI Yi, Assistant to the Dean of SPEIT Ms. ZHANG Lihui, Recruiting Manager of Valeo China Mr. WU Junhao, Talent Development Specialist of Valeo China Ms. SUN Yameng, academic discipline coordinators of SPEIT Mr. Alain CHILLÈS and Mr. Thierry FINOT, heads of the Student Affairs Office, the Academic Office and the Cooperation and Development Office as well as teachers, the Class of 2025 in both undergraduate and graduate studies and the Class of 2024 (as volunteers).
Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET delivered opening remarks for the event, where he sincerely wished the event a success and expected the students to stay more united and happy.
The warm-up and ice breaker at the start immediately brought the students closer. Led by the group leaders, each group came up with a unique group name and slogan and a group flag and came onstage to present itself, all of which had to be done in 15 minutes.
The presentation required at least one student to be scooped or held up in each group. To make it happen, the students brainstormed to present various postures, evoking a wave of laughter and applause after another. Their self-made slogans and flags revealed their love for SPEIT, innovation and teamwork.
It was followed by two activities that required both collaboration and coordination. The students repeatedly set new records for the time spent in the “Travel Around the World” map, and collaborated in using the “magic pen” to write the words: “SPEIT: Never Forget Why You Started, and You Can Accomplish Your Mission”.
The teamwork and solidarity that they demonstrated in the activities that morning revealed their cohesion and vigor.
Following the pause of the drizzles in the afternoon, the students took part in their most anticipated dragon-boat race. After the warm-up and safety training, some students came onboard, and paddled in rhythm as the boat plowed through the water. Other students cheered on their teammates on the bank, pushing the whole race to culminate in sheer jubilation.
Happy time never lasts very long, and good moments are always so gripping, which is exactly true for the event. At the closing ceremony of the event, the groups and group leaders who excelled in the activities were awarded by both SPEIT and its business partners that presented gifts. The students came onstage in groups to celebrate and display the honors of their cooperation.
Ms. LI finally made a conclusion speech, where she talked about Team Building as a good tradition of SPEIT that provided an opportunity for old students to mingle with new ones and teachers to interact with students in interesting activities to build physical and mental health, influence one another and make shared progress. She also expressed her hope that the students could start to embrace a fascinating life at SPEIT.
The event concluded as the students cheered and the teachers sent out their best wishes!
Prior to the event, SPEIT took it very seriously and made elaborate preparations, such as allowing for covid protocols and offering sufficient provision. Students were screened for health by taking temperatures before entering the facility, and the brown sugared ginger decoction was rationed to the students who were hit with a cold snap in the middle of the event, to ensure the event could proceed safely and successfully. Some parents from the family association of SPEIT even drove over 30km to hand out a variety of delicious snacks, which is part of what the association has been doing since it was founded.
With smile and enthusiasm, nobody seemed to feel any cold as it drizzled. The students played carelessly on the lawn, and enjoyed one of the happy moments in their college life. We hereby would like to thank all the teachers, students and their parents for everything that they did for the event! Solidarity, friendship, persistence, perseverance, romance, calm and the pursuit of excellence, these are exactly what the new students of SPEIT have learnt from the event! Wish every SPEITer could press ahead against all odds in their study and life!
